hershey lately has a new habit of eating dirt in the back yard. she bites through the grass and then bites and eats the dirt. not alot. i also found her eating the dirt in a flower pot. does anyone have a clue why she might be doing this? i once heard that when dogs eat things like this they are trying to get a vitamin or mineral they are lacking. don't know if there's any truth in that. thanks!!

Rocky has gone through stages of eating the dirt out of my flower pots. The vet never has mentioned anything about it when i said he does it.

I know they say that when you're pregnant if you feel like you want to eat dirt or clay its because you're lacking iron or something. Not sure about dogs. I guess its possible, especially if it's a new habit.
